Meistersinger or Master singer – Picking up my new watch

| By Frank Geelen | 2 min read |
Meistersinger No.01

I’ve been contemplating a lot about a new watch, however recently a group-buy was initiated at a Dutch watch forum. Since the brand involved in the group-buy is one that was among the watches I seriously considered, it wasn’t difficult to partake. The group-buy also meant a serious reduction on the official retail price, so all the better. All watches arrived at the dealer with whom the forum members organised the group buy, and now the time has come to collect my new watch! By the way, did you know that Meistersinger translates into Master Singer in English?

Meistersinger Number 1
Meistersinger No. 01

The one I choose is the Meistersinger No. 01, a watch that right from its inception had everything going for it to become a classic. With its crisp clean white dial it can be worn with a suits, in the office, and with jeans and it will always look good. The diameter of 43mm is large, but still looks good and improves legibility. Inside ticks the manually wound movement, calibre ETA 2801-2. The 43mm diameter feels very pleasant on my wrist, so the choice was an easy one. This is what my new Meistersinger No. 01 Z should look like.

The Meistersinger No. 01 has only one hand to indicate the time. It might look like you miss something, but It’s actually very easy to read time on it, since the dial is so open and uncluttered. The one-hand is actually Meistersinger’s hallmark and refers to the very first clocks ever – old church clocks in the middle ages – that had one hand to indicate the time.

This particular model is reference AM301, which has the silver/white dial and one black hand. It is also available with a black dial and white hands, ivory dial with black hands or black dial and red gold hands. The ETA 2801-2 movement is manually wound, has a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. The movement has 17 jewels, and beats at 28,800 vph (or 4 Hz), and comes with an Incablock antishock system.

Thanks to the forum members for setting up this group-buy, and special thanks to Ruud from Clockwise for a great deal and smooth transaction!
