Grönefeld One Hertz RG

Recently we had some hands-on time with the NEW Grönefeld One Hertz RG. New? Yes, new! You might be surprised, because in the past four years we covered several versions of the Grönefeld One Hertz. This horological exploration, in using stainless steel for the bridges, started back in 2010 when they introduced the very first One Hertz 1912; a limited edition of 12 pieces in stainless steel. That series is long sold out and a few months later Grönefeld introduced the One Hertz Dune, in pink gold with a chocolate brown dial. The newest version features a dial that is ‘aligned’ with the recently introduced Parallax Tourbillon, which is the latest horological masterpiece from Grönefeld.

Technically we already described the luster of the stainless steel bridges, which is really unparalleled when compared to the beauty of German silver bridges – a material often used for bridges on high-end timepieces. The technical approach, with an independent driven jumping second hand (often referred to as dead seconds or seconde morte) is also unique for wrist watches and guarantees a very stable chronometric performance, i.e. a very precise watch. The “new” mainly refers to the newly designed dial, hands, and chapter rings.

The chapter rings and heat-blued stainless steel hands, for the off centre hour and minute dial, the winding/setting indicator and the power reserve indicator, are reminiscent to the Parallax Tourbillon. The base dial is made of a solid Sterling Silver 925 plate, finished with a frosted surface with diamond cut bevels. The frosting gives a very fine grained finish. The dial is far from a simple flat dial, and shows a three-dimensional architecture.

The chapter rings are Rhodium plated, with a circular graining and beveled edges. The hands are extended ‘Lancette’ hands, made in flame-blued steel and the centres are hand-polished. The heat blued steel offsets great against the off white finely grained dial.

The case measures a manly 43 mm in diameter and 12.5 mm in height, with a polished bezel and the mid-case is hand-finished with straight graining. The One Hertz is not the smallest watch, but the wrist presence is absolutely awesome. When you flip it over, you get to see a magnificent showcase of how incredibly beautiful true Haute Horlogerie can be.

The new Grönefeld One Hertz RG is available for € 73.550 EURO (before tax) and is (for the first time) a non-limited edition. More info: www.gronefeld.com

Special thanks go out to Edwin Heusinkveld, for the magnificent photos, which you can recognise by the black frame. Let’s end with some wrist shots of the new One Hertz RG.
