Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision Platinum - SIHH 2017

Launched in 2015, the Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision is the brand’s vision (pun intended) of a pure and clean watch, a piece that doesn’t scream too loud its noble origins and that discreetly display the time, a small second and a tourbillon. All of that was encased in a very round watch (not usual for the brand) and, well, it is just as plain as a Greubel Forsey can be. Still, turn it back and you’ll see an incredible level of finish and a fast-rotating tourbillon. The Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision will see new versions for the SIHH 2017 and will now be offered with 4 dials options, including the very appealing Salmon version on top of this article (and I know someone at the Monochrome redaction who’ll love it).

The Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision has been for a year the “entry-level” offer of the brand – as long as we can place these words next to the name Greubel Forsey – before the brand came with their first no-tourbillon watch last year, the Signature 1. So actually, this “Vision” remains the accessible Tourbillon of the brand, though it has a price of around 300,000 Euros. The goal of this watch when introduced was to create something more accessible, not necessarily in terms of price but more in terms of  style and wearability. Usually, the case of a Greubel Forsey watch might need to protrude here or there asymmetrically, to accommodate the inclusion of a tourbillon or four, maybe even a miniature globe. Their dials are display windows for all kind of complications and for an unusual layout, something that however greatly participate to the look of these watches. Not with the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision.

This “Vision” is indeed sober and restrained and of course it is a thing of beauty to behold. Objectified by its slender profile and perfectly rounded case, its classic styling is the yet kidding a pure horological feast, a tradition for the brand. Inside is a movement that make you change your mind about the notion of finishing. Forget about what some call hand-made, this watch is really hand-made and hand-decorated. The movement holds a 24-second tourbillon inclined, something that actually created an issue as the purpose of the Vision was also to be slimmer. The solution is on the back: a semi-spherical sapphire to englobe the tourbillon – more details here.

For the SIHH 2017, the Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision will see the arrival of platinum for its case (it was only available in white and red gold) and 4 new dials will be offered: salmon with applied gold indexes filled in blue, blue with applied gold indexes filled in white, brown with applied gold indexes filled in white and finally anthracite black with engraved and oven-fired enamelled indexes (just like the first edition in white gold). All features straps that match the dial color.  The hands are made of hand-polished stainless steel, which are blued on the Salmon version. This “quartet” of watches is a new situation for the brand, since each Greubel Forsey timepiece usually features only one case version in platinum.

More details about price and availability will be given during the SIHH 2017. greubelforsey.com.
